About
History of the Friends
The Friends of the Massachusetts National Guard Museum was founded in 1996, to preserve and promote the legacy of the Massachusetts National Guard. Since then, our organization has grown into a dedicated community of supporters, working to fund exhibits, support the museum's efforts and bring history to life for the public.
Over the years, we’ve achieved significant milestones, including funding plaques for memorials, supporting the conservation of artifacts, and organizing educational programs that highlight the Guard’s enduring legacy. As we look to the future, our focus remains on ensuring the museum becomes a center of excellence for historical preservation and education.
Massachusetts National Guard Heritage
The Massachusetts National Guard traces its origin back to December 13, 1636, when the Massachusetts Bay Colony organized three regiments for its defense. Since then the Massachusetts National Guard has served with distinction in every major conflict, from the Revolutionary War to modern overseas deployments.
This illustrious history includes pivotal moments like the "shot heard round the world" at Lexington and Concord, the formation of the famed 26th Infantry Division during World War I, and numerous humanitarian and security missions in the 21st century.
